Modesty – Stand firm for our beliefs!

Love it.

‘The experience reminded me of a quote from Thomas S. Monson: “As we go about living from day to day, it is almost inevitable that our faith will be challenged. We may at times find ourselves surrounded by others and yet standing in the minority or even standing alone concerning what is acceptable and what is not. Do we have the moral courage to stand firm for our beliefs, even if by so doing we must stand alone?”’

Hijaab linked to less negative body image

Linking in perfectly with our baligha series…read this!

“Controlling for religiosity, women who wore the hijab had more positive body image, lower internalization of media messages about beauty standards, and placed less importance on appearance than women who did not wear the hijab.”

This was also SO insightful:

“We actually have quite a bit of research now on what happens when a girl or woman wears skintight leggings or a swimsuit. Often what happens is “self-objectification”: the girl, or woman, assesses herself as an object on display for others. And the more public the setting, the more likely self-objectification is to occur.”

Speech to Graduates by Muslim Chaplain

Subhanallah…so many high-achieving Muslims in the media these days!

This speech to graduates is powerful…he talks about how 9-11 shaped so much of what he is today and then imparts some gems of advice.

If your child (or anyone else you know) is graduating this year then this may be the right video for them! But hey…it’s actually motivating for us all 🙂
