Fundraising Idea 8: Give them the spotlight!

Fundraising Idea 8: Give them the spotlight!

Alhamdulillah, children from an early age are able to empathise and want to help others. Fundraising builds on this, and allows them to have a desire to help others from a young age.

Why not then allow them to share why they are doing this with others? Abbasali Hemraj gave a speech at mosque, and (along with other fundraising activities) raised more than £2,300!!

Involve them in the speech writing process, so they feel passion for what they are saying. And don’t worry if you feel they are quite young – just write a speech in accordance to their capabilities.

Ask your centre if they can have 5 minutes of the programme to give a speech. Most centres would be more than willing, I am sure! It is also a great way to build confidence in the children, and promote public speaking skills.

Lastly, upload their speech on to YouTube and spread the word that way!

Fundraising Idea 7: Dessert Sale

Fundraising Idea 7: Dessert Sale

How about making and selling desserts for charity, like Sakinah?

This can be done from home and by order; alternatively, many centres hold a dessert sale, and it is an ideal time to get the kids involved! I know many kids start helping out with the baking from a young age, and who doesn’t like going crazy with some icing?!

That’s what Abbasali Hemraj did last year: “We had dessert stalls on one of the nights. I made jelly cups and mandazi for him to sell.”

In the normal dessert sales (adult run), why not have a section for the kiddos? Allow them to organise, price, cook and sell? A great way to instill lots of life skills at the same time 🙂

Fundraising Idea 6: Sponsored Quran memorisation

Fundraising Idea 6: Sponsored Quran memorisation

How apt is this fundraising idea for this Holy month!

Here are two brilliant examples!

1) “A couple of years ago, Fatema Zahra (6) and Muhammad Ali (4) took on a fundraising project to help those suffering from the famine in East Africa. They had visited an orphanage in Africa in the previous year and met the children there which made them even more determined to help the plight of those families suffering in Africa.

They raise funds by being sponsored to memories Suras such as Sura Al-Balad and Sura Al-Asr and specific verses of the Holy Quan such as the Ayah of Shahadah in the Holy month of Ramadhan and set up a justgiving page to receive donations for their cause.

They ended up raising £1000 in just 10 days and increased their target to £1500 which they managed to exceed by the end of Ramadhan too!”
